Congratulations
to Jennifer Thompson, the 2003 recipient of the Victor Kojo Scholarship.
Thompson was born in Brooklyn, NY and is currently a freshman at
Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH.
Thompson has always excelled academically. She attended the Academy
for Gifted Children in Astoria, NY and the Bronx High School of
Science where she was a member of the pre-law society and the
track team. During her junior year, Thompson joined the Mock Trial
team and she credits that experience with helping her to choose
a career path.
“Our Mock Trial team made it into the finals in New York City,”
Thompson said. “We came in second. That experience helped cement
my desire to become a lawyer,”
At Dartmouth, Thompson maintains a 3.22 GPA. She competes on
the women’s rugby team, and she is a member of the Student Global
Aids campaign.
“The Student Global AIDS campaign at Dartmouth works with the
national organization to raise awareness of global and local AIDS
issues on college campuses,” Thompson said.
Recently Thompson helped to complete a pamphlet for National
Black AIDS Awareness Day.
“We presented the African-American community here at Dartmouth
with a pamphlet that had startling facts about HIV/AIDS in the
black community as well as ways that individuals can raise awareness
and protect themselves,” Thompson said.
In the fall, Thompson will attend classes in Salvador, Brazil
through the Dartmouth College study abroad program.
